Whimsical Christmas Mantel

Whimsical Christmas Mantel

We’re not doing a big tree this year for three reasons: (1) We’re not going to be home, (2) We desperately need a new one, (3) We have a 21 month old who loves to destroy things. So we have a cute little table top 3 foot white Charlie Brown tree on a desk. So I wanted to make up for it with a fun and whimsical Christmas Mantel.

Yes, we have an electric fireplace. It was a hand-me-down from my in-laws and I love it. I’m lost without a mantel to decorate. :) And it throws some great heat too!

I started by re-painting a wood sign I did a while ago in red and white stripes. I also used ornaments and a wreath I had on hand to make the ornament wreath (using Melissa at The Happier Homemaker’s tutorial).

For the glittery Poinsettia pot, I simply covered the cheap, ugly plastic pot it came in with Mod Podge and glitter. Simple and so much prettier!

The tree ($14) and reindeer ornament ($4) I found at Target. The “Noel” sign was 50% off at Hobby Lobby, so I think I paid like $7 for it!

I hung a few mini stocking using baker’s twine and mini clothespin clips and then used more baker’s twine and mini clothespins to create a spot to hang Christmas cards. And finally, I wrapped some empty boxes and secured them to the wall with heavy duty duct tape (they keep falling still!).

If you missed my Starburst Ornament Wreath tutorial last week, you can find it here.

The ornament wreaths are so simple and come out so gorgeous and I’m a little obsessed with making them this year!
