Romantic Valentine’s Mantel

Romantic Valentine's Mantel

I wanted a simple, über-romantic Valentine’s Day Mantel with a bit of Anthropologie-esque vibe to it.  I also wanted to to be subtly Valentine’s Day so I can re-use things I made for it around the house year-round.  And I finally convinced the Hubs to take down the huge heavy mirror that was above the mantel when we moved in down and put it in another room.  As gorgeous as it was, I was tired of using it in every mantel design thus far.  Keep reading to find out how simple it was to put this mantel together…

Vintage Lace Love Letters

You can see how I made these Vintage Lace Love Letters here.  (It was really hard to photograph the lace detail well).

I got the hanging wall vase for about $10 at Michael’s and I love the romantic, vintage-y vibe it gives.  I simply filled it with tree branches from my yard (apparently I have a thing for doing this lately!).

These vintage perfume bottles are from the local thrift shop and I painted them with two coats of Martha Stewart all-purpose acrylic paint in Carnation Pink.  Cute, right?

The tree trunk slice was about $10 at Hobby Lobby and the stand was around $2.  I simply drew on the heart with a paper stencil and did the art work by hand with a brown marker.  I wanted it to look like someone had craved it in a tree.

The cardboard heart box was under $4 at Hobby Lobby.  I painted it with a thin streaky coat of white paint to keep a rustic look and then dabbed silvery paint onto a stencil I had for the heart and key design.

I didn’t want to go with the traditional roses so I got cheap calla lily stems from Hobby Lobby.  But when I got home, I decided I didn’t like the pop of brighter pink so I simply painted them with the Carnation Pink paint.  The water pitcher is one I got from the local farmer’s market over the summer.
