DIY Poinsettia Felt Flowers {on Striped Yarn Wreath}

I vividly remember making these Poinsettia flowers out of construction paper as a kid and I thought they might be super cute in felt so I headed to Hobby Lobby for all the stuff I’d need to make what I had pictured in my head. I doesn’t always happen this way, but it came out exactly as I’d pictured. I love the bold, festive colors of this simple wreath.

What You’ll Need:

Styrofoam Wreath Form
White and Red Yarn
Red and Yellow Felt
Needle and thread
Hot Glue Gun
Bright Green Ribbon

Start by cutting your red felt into 3″ x 2.5″ rectangles. I tried making several different sizes but this size looked best. Then simply freehand leaf shapes lengthwise out of the rectangles as shown below. Using 5 petals for each flower, pinch the end and sew them together in a circle shape.

For the center, cut a 1″ by 3″ strip of yellow felt and cut notches all along one side as shown below. I guard one side with a straight edge and then quickly cut the notches with a rotary cutter. Roll up and sew into the center of your Poinsettia. I made three in the same size for this wreath.

Next make 2″ marks with a pencil all the way around your wreath as shown below (mine ended up with one 1″ spot which I marked for the spot to hang the ribbon. Wrap your wreath with yarn, alternating red and white. You can hot glue ends when you end/start a color or simply tie them together.
