Ribbon Rosettes

These sweet rosettes are machine and hand-sewn making them sturdy enough to embellish outfits.  I actually created them with the below skirt in mind (just a sneak peek!) which I’ll be posting a tutorial for in just a few days.  I wanted something that would stand up to playing and washing.

What You’ll Need:
Ribbon with a slight ruffle to the edges (about 3 ft per 3″ flower)
Fabric Scraps in the same color as your ribbon
Rotary Mat and Cutter (optional but useful)
Sewing Goodies
Here is the ribbon I used.  I got about 3 flowers per 9 ft. spool.

The top circular cardboard piece of the spool happened to be about 3″ in diameter which is exactly how big I wanted my flowers to be.  I cut 6 circles from scrap black fabric to use as the base for each flower.

Tuck one end of the ribbon under to the edges aren’t exposed and don’t fray.  Beginning at the outer edge of the fabric circle, slowly sew the ribbon to the fabric in a circular motion until you reach the center.

When you get close to the center, backstitch and remove your flower from the machine.  Cut the ribbon, leaving an inch or two tail as shown below.

Bunch into the center, ensuring the raw edge is “buried” and hand stitch the center.  Then your flower will look like this:

And that’s it!  If you plan to make the skirt in a few days, you’ll need 6 of these flowers.  I made an extra to sew to a headband too.  So cute!
