Happy 2nd Birthday to our Ice Storm Baby, Chloé!

A little over 2 years ago, I was 39 weeks pregnant and an epic ice storm hit this little town.  Everyone lost power.  After one freezing night in a home with no heat, we packed up ourselves, our 17 month old son, and our two dogs and headed a few hours south to a hotel with heat!  My hubby literally had to use a rubber mallet to chip at the ice to even be able to get in his truck. (We couldn’t get into my van…the ice was too thick!)

I was scheduled to have a c-section that week but the hospital was also without power.  After two days in the hotel and no plans for power to come back on at home, I called my insurance company for help.  The pretty much said, “Here’s a list of our covered doctors.  Call around and find someone who will do your c-section”.  The phone calls went something like this.  ”Hey, I know you’ve never met me, but can you do my c-section and deliver my baby this week?”.

Some laughed, some thought I was joking, some just plain said no.  I probably called a dozen doctors before one agreed to see me in Dallas.  So we packed up the crew again and headed 2 more hours south to Dallas to have our little girl.  (If you’re a Dallas resident, Dr. Darrel Jordan at Medical City Dallas hospital ROCKS.  I totally lucked out.  Seriously, google him and read the fantastic reviews he gets from his patients.  They don’t make docs like them anymore!  His staff was also so sweet, sincere, and helpful.)

That’s the very short version of a very long story.  Our 4 hour trip home from Dallas a few days later included me (with a big ole’ c-section incision), my hubby, our TWO kids, our two dogs and my Mom (who changed her plans and flew into Dallas to help us!)…all in the cab of my hubby’s Honda Ridgeline truck.  Never a dull moment!  On the upside, Chloé gets to say her birthplace is Dallas, TX and not a no-name town in Oklahoma (poor baby #3 won’t be so lucky!).

Wishing a very happy 2nd birthday to our sweet girl!  You were so worth every moment and we love you so much!
