After seeing this dresser on Pinterest as well as my cousin posting pics of her adorable multi-fabric version she made for her daughter on Facebook, I had to make one of these for the coming baby’s nursery. The Pinterest pin was uploaded by user so I decided to make it up as I go. It turned out to be so easy, I decided to share the simple tutorial with you. Such an inexpensive, easy way to give new life to something you already own. This was also my first Mod Podge project and it won’t be the last!
Did I mention this makeover cost me all of about $10? Can’t beat that!
What You’ll Need:
Mod Podge Matte
Fabric (Enough to cover your dresser’s drawers. I used less than a half yard of this fabric.)
Foam Brushes
Rotary Cutter/Mat
Here is the dresser/changer I wanted to make over. It was my daughter’s and I thought it’d be fun to make it match the crib sheets for the new baby girl that’ll be here in about 4 weeks!
I removed the knobs and measured the drawer fronts. I cut the fabric exactly the size as the front of the drawer. I cut each drawer from the fabric with no excess in between so that the zig zags would line up. I layed the fabric on the drawer the ensure the size was right and then ironed all 3 pieces of fabric well.
Then using a foam brush, I covered the top of the drawer fronts with one thick layer of Mod Podge.
Then I carefully lined up the fabric and placed it on top. Rubbing and smoothing the fabric to the drawer to ensure no there were no bubbles. Then I covered the fabric well (especially on the edges) with 2 coats of Mod Podge (allowing 15 minutes to dry between layers).
I let all 3 drawers dry overnight (And my toddlers still managed to sneak in that room and handprint the Mod Podge while it was drying!!). Then I simply poked a hole through where the knob holes were and put the knobs back in the drawers and the drawers back in the dresser.
I love, love, love the end result! Who knew it could be so easy (and inexpensive)?!
