Master Bedroom Makeover

It’s done!!!!  It’s more of a mini-makeover but since we’ll be moving again sometime this year I didn’t want to paint the walls or anything major.  We also plan to buy new bedroom furniture when we move since I’ve had this set since college.  Except for the platform bed, which my handy hubby made!  The master bedroom has always never really been decorated.  It where all the leftovers go.  It was high time for a little redo to make it a more relaxing, romantic space and I only spent around $200 by re-purposing things around the house.  Now for the fun part: the before and after pics and then I’ll get into the makeover details!

You can find the “In This House” Paintining Upcycle Tute here.

I replaced the lampshade with simple black shades that cost about $8 each.  The Organic Pintuck Duvet and Shams (color: Slate) I bought on sale for 20% off at West Elm.  I already had a down insert to go in the duvet.

The black faux-leather curtains I’ve had since college.  I got them at Bed, Bath, and Beyond and they block out so much light in the morning which is awesome!
I made all the pillow covers using fabrics from FabricEnvy.com.  You can get my tute for the ruffled yellow pillow here.  The fabrics are as follows:

  • Color Stripe Neutral Taza Dena Designs for Free Spirit
  • Medallion Grey Taza Dena Designs for Free Spirit
  • Pure Organic Marigold Ready, Set Go! By Anne Kelle
I made the “You & Me, Me & You” Wall Art using my Silhouette Cameo and you can find the tute here.

The candle sticks I think I originally bought at Pier 1.  They were a bronze color and I spray-painted them a Slate Grey.

I also spray painted a banana hanger the same color and made a pomander style hanging flower display.  This was something I had asked the florist for my wedding to do to decorate the aisle and double as centerpieces at the reception.  You may notice the bottom half of the pomander is missing flowers…I didn’t buy enough and the store is out of them so I’m waiting on more to come in.

I changed all the pictures in the room to Black and White’s since the pops of yellow are so bright.

BedroomMakeover3        Mirror
The mirror is from Pier 1 and was one of the very first things I purchased when I moved out on my own so I doubt I’ll every part with it but I did spray paint it in the same Slate Grey.

A little yellow spray paint to jazz up some old picture frames and a vase and flowers I had in a box complete the mantle.
We went to visit my in-laws in Chicago over the holidays and they had this electric fireplace in their basement and gave it to us!  I love the cozy, romantic feel it gives the bedroom and it’s also a heater!

And that’s pretty much it.  Perfectly clean and simple.  Until my boys come in to wrestle…That’s the upside of the Pintuck Duvet Cover.  It’s supposed to look wrinkled. :)
Confession: The real truth is it doesn’t always looks so picture perfect.  The last picture is a more accurate representation.  I put every other piece of clutter from our room in our closet while I took pics.  Like my giant Snoggle pregnancy pillow which I adore and piles of clean clothes that were on the floor for two days now.  :)
