Pattern Remix: The Kyla Dress Pattern

One of the first patterns I used was the Kyla Dress by Frog Legs and Ponytails.  I love that it’s reversible which means you have no exposed seams, so if you don’t own a serger (I didn’t at the time) this is an especially great pattern.  It’s also where I learned how to make bias tape and “the proper” way to put it on.  I recently changed up the pattern a bit and used old knit tee shirts to make this dress:

Here are a few pics of the dresses I made following the pattern exactly:
What You’ll Need for the Remix Version:
Three large t-shirts (two for the dress, one for straps)
Ball Point Needle (for sewing with knits)
Rotary Cutter and Mat (optional but makes cutting with patterns so much easier!)
For the pattern remix version, I took a t-shirt I love but that’s way too big for me and one of my husband’s black t-shirts.  I used the Kyla pattern in my daughter’s size and cut 2 pieces from each tee.
I used an old maternity tee to make the straps.  I cut 8 straps (using the Kyla Pattern strap template as shown below) and assembled as per the pattern directions.
From there, I followed the pattern instructions only instead of using bias tape at the bottom hem, I did two rows of 3.5″ stitching.  Easy, breezy new summer dress for my daughter (or for now with a t-shirt and leggings)!
As you can see, she wasn’t really in the mood to model for me this day…
