And the wreath obsession continues…
I love the look of Rag Wreaths. I think most people poke fabrics strips into styrofoam wreaths to make these but I tie strips of torn fabric around grapevine wreaths since it’s cheaper (and easier, if you ask me). Better Homes and Gardens make a grapevine wreath you can buy at Wal-Mart for under $4.
What You’ll Need:
- About 1 3/4 yards of your fabric of Choice (I used muslin for both of these. It’s the same fabric although the lighting makes it look like two different fabrics. Muslin is an inexpensive fabric too.)
- Lace (If you want to make the wreath on the left). I bought two spools of 10 yards each in black and ivory. You could use ribbon as well.
- Ribbon to hang the wreath with (About 18 inches long)
- Embellishments: Wooden Letter (Painted your color of choice), Felt or Fabric Flowers, etc.
- Hot Glue Gun and Sticks
- Sewing Machine/Needle and Thread (optional depending on embellishments)
For the rag fabric pieces, I make a small cut every two inches of fabric and tear all the way down. I use strips about 18 inches long and tie them on close together until the wreath is full. For the wreath with lace the pattern I used was: muslin, black lace, muslin, white lace, muslin, etc.

For the Pomela felt flowers (the red ones), I used this tute, only I made my strips of felt 12″x2.5″ and sewed them in half before cutting and hot gluing into flowers.
For the black felt flowers, I used three circular things from around my house as templates (a ribbon spool, a bottle lid, and part of a button cover kit) to cut out circles in three sizes. Then I cut them a bit to look more like a petal shape and sewed them together with a button.
I hung the lace and muslin wreath in my sewing room.
And this wreath was for the secretary in my husband’s office for her birthday.
I love the look of these Pomela flowers!! Easy and cute!
